Supervisor Joel Engardio loses the Recall Election. Talking with Albert Chow
Supervisor Joel Engardio is recalled - first time a sitting member of the Board of Supervisors is recalled. Why was this unprecedented vote successful ?
San Francisco had never recalled an incumbent Supervisor, until September 16th, 2025, when Joel Engardio lost his seat on the Board of Supervisors. Preliminary results showed that 64.6 % of the voters in District 4 voted to recall him. Early into the evening, Engardio conceded the loss, but claimed that he was on the right side of history.
Albert Chow is a resident, voter and small businessman in D4 and played a leading role in the Recall campaign.
